Now-Again Records are the quintessential Funk music experts that record nerds dream of being & follow obsessively. Their taste is untouched with each release taking a different turn from the last.
The latest turn has led them to Indonesia in the 1970’s. The music of choice for the dodgy times was not unlike what was going on stateside. Psychedelic, Blues tinged, hard, funky Rock N Roll.
When I first reported on this a few months ago, label head Egon covered some nice ground on an NPR story he curates sporadically. Giving us a glimpse as to what we could expect for the compilation, I was already ahead of the curve on the some of the bands featured, but there were plenty others I had never heard a lick of.
If you have been following the Cambodian Rocks series, or love Sublime Frequencies just as much as I do, you should have a good idea of the wonder that was going on in Southeast Asia at the time.
The album is available in a CD version (pictured) or a nicely packaged 3 LP set (got that too!) that both come with an AMAZING book giving heavy details on the music with photos & liner notes.
Available at Turntable Lab.
