Upcoming Films
The IFC will be screening these two films for a limited amount of time, both starting on March 9th. Jiro Dreams Of Sushi looks to be very touching and Attenberg, which has made the rounds for nearly two years now, looks to be a weird exploration of sexual oversights.
Norwegian Wood
Finally got to see Norwegian Wood late last month. Not to give a full review of the film, I will keep it short.
The classic “book was better” comes to mind, nothing against the film at all. It was very good. Amazingly beautiful. Great performances. The only complaints are how quickly the film moved through the details with a lot of oversights. Again, it’s a great film and I...

Rammellzee: The Equation
The Suzanne Geiss Foundation will be having their inaugural exhibit starting March 8th with the work of New York graffiti mystic Rammellzee. The elusive artist, to me, captures the essence of a true New York creative. Pre internet, pulling from sources not of this world, and for Hip Hop standards on some real/other shit.
The collection of Letter Racers is being shown for the first time in New...

Train Games: Okamiden
The funny thing about riding the train a few times throughout the week I find myself observing all walks of life doing what they have to do to get from point A to point B. Tons of reading, which is great. Lots of skimming through phone photos, which is kind of a weird one to me. TONS of video game play.
I love that most consumers consider the iPad a necessity for whatever reason, but you know...

Seoul Week: Lomography Greenwich Village
There will be a film screening tonight at the Lomo gallery in Greenwich village. The film will be a celebration of the Lomography family in Seoul, Korea, which I have no clue what that means. I am assuming the film was shot in Korea using Lomo’s new Lomokino camera which shoots video using a normal roll of 35mm… which is great idea, but good lord that can get expensive.
There will...

Soundtrack For Today: Nuyorican Soul
Random Thought
It would be awesome if all the kids were into Shabazz Palaces like they were into ASAP or Odd Future.

Snack Bonding: Kashi's Indigo Morning
It seems like it’s been years since I have ventured away from Kashi’s Heart to Heart joints, but man… even though this sounds like a weed variant, it’s kind of the jam.
There actually might be weed in this cereal.

Random Thought
5th grade. My teacher at the time had a behavior chart that was based on a colored star system. I don’t recall the color correlation to what was bad or good, but I do remember the day I was aiming straight for the bad side of the chart.
The day started as any other day. I am sure I was being loud, doing my work, but still having a good time. Being the occasional class clown has always...

Green Giant: Down With The King
Recommended Listening / DJ Mixtape
Green Giant comes with a ripper of a mixtape in honor of Gasface’s (@kungfoutre) current project Lookin’ 4 Galt. A film showing their journey to find mysterious composer Galt MacDermot that has supposedly relocated to New York, yet seldom if ever seen. Gasface are true New York ambassadors via France and I hope to kick it next time they are roaming...

Ed Lin: Motherf*ckerland
One of my favorite contemporary authors, Ed Lin (@robertchow), has an on going web novel via Giant Robot called Motherfuckerland. The series is up to part three at the moment, so you better catch up starting from the top.
Mr. Lin’s work first grabbed me when I picked up a copy of his second novel, This Is A Bust, at Giant Robot in Los Angeles. I have been a huge fan ever since. Highly...

Tokyo Times: Abandoned Music Studio
Lee Chapman of Tokyo Times shoots Japan in a refreshing sense and finds some great locations that look eerily staged, but are reportedly left untouched. His latest shows us an abandoned music recording studio near Mt. Fuji. Looking over the amazing photos, the spirit of anyone that ever recorded or visited the studio come through the images or at least feel like they are out of the frame trying...

Queens Museum Of Art: Frank Oscar Larson
This past weekend saw the opening of what looks like an amazing collection of New York street photography from banker by day, relatively undiscovered photographer, Frank Oscar Larson. The show is based around the photos taken during the 1950’s and 60’s in the Queens area amongst other New York locations. The sample shots via the Gothamist are inspiring and I am excited to see the...
