My Day In 8 Photos - Hood Exploring
Knowing that I live right by Chinatown Brooklyn is so fresh to me. Learning that it is 3 avenues away is even fresher. I took a walk around my new hood, Sunset Park, to get a little more familiar with it and see what great discoveries there are to be found.
One - This is the view from my very dark room. It was a lovely day and was calling my name.
Two - We have a double door system at our front door and I always love the distorted images that textured glass creates. Someone should make a time lapse video of what the day would be like through this type of glass.
Three - This very cute old lady just would not (and probably could not) let go of the fence to clean her part of the side walk. She was reaching so hard with her cane just to get a little gum rapper out of her side walk.
Four - Wu Tang seems to be getting up real heavy in my hood and I am totally not mad at them. I just really hope they are an Asian kid and not one of the lesser known Wu Tang members.
Five - Bais Sara is an all female school in Brooklyn that is predominantly Jewish. This bus looked so dope though with its presumably hand painted sign on the side. The color combination is solid on it’s own, but the contrast with school bus yellow is amazing.
Six - Arnold’s Bicycle Shop was a great find in the neighborhood. The bikes on the walk caught my eye, but the sign was really great too. I talked to Arnold a bit and after telling him I just moved in, he told me he has been here 37 years. I love old timers.
Seven - Cutting up somewhere near 51st I came across this daycare that was decorated in a unique manner. The decoration covers all the bases of what any young kid might be attracted to. The hand painted monkey kills me though.
Eight - Walking through Chinatown and trying to see how far it stretched I came across the D train, I believe. The was day super gorgeous and I love the contrast of the sky and the train.
I headed home shortly after this, but not before I managed to grab a banh mi from a Vietnamese spot and some super cheap veggie dumplings. Banh mi was kind of ok, but the dumplings were on point.
More days like this will be had.
