    My Canadian homies just came through with the best Best of 2010 mix that everyone can appreciate. Smalltown DJs are some of the best programmers I know in the DJ world and am super stoked myself and Fully Fitted crew have a couple of tracks on the mix! Thanks dudes and here is to 2011!

  • El Cinco The Family Smalltown is making their way down to Austin this weekend for The Austin City Limits Festival. Pete is a great friend and his family seems to be top notch when it comes to digging new music. I asked him for his Top 5 Bands He Didn’t Wanna Miss and I got bonus lists from Smalltown Pops and Smalltown Sibling. Pete Emes aka Smalltown Pete 5) The Soft Pack - I love this band they played early at Coachella this year too and we just sat on the grass and partied in our brains.  I wish they were still called the Muslims.  Their cover of The Cure’s ‘Grinding Halt” is such a tune.  4) Girls - I’ve never seen them play live yet.  But their full length was a big one for me.  I feel like they are part of a scene with which I am not familiar with but would like to become better acquainted.  Hellhole Ratrace has made me tear up at least once. 3) Sonic Youth - Never seen them either - can you believe it?  They along with the Pixies and Pavement formed the triumvirate of best bands ever for me in high school.  Kim Gordon was my future wife.  Luckily that didn’t work out because Dawn is a way sicker wife than Kim would have been.   2) LCD Soundsystem  - James Murphy has achieved some kind of crazy punk rock demigod status in my eyes.  He writes better songs than anybody, with a seemingly nonchalant attitude and simultaneous love & hate of the scene of which he is a part.  As my dad exclaimed this band while hearing them play “All My Friends” a couple years ago: “The evolution of punk rock!” 1) The Strokes - Ever since “Is This It” came out and blew a huge breath of fresh air into the lifeless rock world in 2000 these guys have been on my list of top bands.  Like LCD they have great songs, as well as an Iggy Pop meets Lou Reed spirit, and I love that they didn’t care that they were poised to become the biggest band in the world and essentially threw it away.   *Also mad excited to hear White Rabbits play “The Plot”, Flaming Lips play “Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell”, Local Natives play “Airplanes” & Beach House to play “Norway”. My brother Dave Emes 1) Sonic Youth. Band from my youth.2) Black Keys. For guitar shredding.3) LCD. Great show every time I’ve seen them.4) Eagles.     Smalltown Pete is a stand up dude, and if you have ever wondered where it comes from it is definitely from Smalltown Pops, Al Emes. Pete’s father enjoys music just as much as Pete does. In fact, they have attended Austin’s ACL festival for the last few years as a family outing.

  • Smalltown DJs x The Rub - Sixpacks, Shotguns, & Serato tour mix

    The good homies Smalltown DJs and The Rub did their somewhat annual tour a few weeks ago, and this time around they got some great footage of the shows and other fun stuff only those dudes can pull off.
