Vex Ruffin: Eulogy EP

Recommended Listening / Free Download
One of my favorite bands/people in the last ten years, Vex Ruffin + Stones Throw is giving us their latest for free. I would gladly pay for this EP, but these dudes are just like nah son.
Post Punk, Minimal/Dark Wave goodness that always makes me wonder how you can make some real shit like this in sunny California. Pretty sure dude must not have any windows in his house lair.

50 Days For Dilla
One of my favorite beat makers, @takubeats, is keeping to his word of giving us a wonderful beat everyday for 50 days in honor of the late, great J Dilla. We are nearing the half way mark, and I am sure dude has plenty of beats to pay a loving tribute for the next year straight. Wish I could have met Ta-ku while he was in town for CMJ. Miles Bonny has told me nothing but good things about him. Respect.
I hope there is a chance of these beats seeing an official release someday all together with some nice artwork.
Needle Exchange 071: Anika

Recommended Listening / Post Punk
Stones Throw’s Anika seems to always come to New York and I always seem to miss her. We had her on Turntable Lab Radio earlier this year and I STILL MISSED HER!
Regardless of our paths not crossing I can still enjoy her from afar, with her self-titled Geoff Barrows produced album and mixtapes.
This is an all vinyl set from Anika for Self-Titled Magazine’s Needle Exchange.

Turntable Lab Radio 001: Anika

Recommended Listening / DJ Mix
Turntable Lab Radio recently ducked out from the late night shadows of East Village Radio and is now it’s own free standing entity. They kicked off the new and refreshed series with the post punk goodness of Anika.
Anika is one of Stones Throw’s latest signings with her album seeing a release in late 2010. Geoff Barrow’s of Portishead produced the druggy dub record with perfection.
There is an official podcast that you can subscribe to in iTunes as well as a Tumblr page for Lab Radio, bonus Woodman footage of her set at the New York store. Follow them!
