Former Output Recordings man behind the curtain, Trevor Jackson, was hired to curate the latest Strut compilation to be out soon entitled, Metal Dance. The compilation is of Jackson’s favorite Industrial, Post Punk, EBM tunes when things were still funky. I always found it interesting that a lot of early Industrial was more Hip Hop / Funk based than people would think. Listen to Ministry’s “Work For Love” as an example or give A Certain Ratio a spin and hear some of the funkiest un Funk music ever.
Though Jackson digs a little deeper than my two examples, I use them as really strong ideas of what was going on in the hybrid sound coming out of the early 80’s.
As a special bonus Jackson put together a mini mix of the upcoming release.

Recommended Listening / DJ Mix
Pocketknife released this in conjunction the newly offered Arthur’s Landing LP that just dropped on Strut about a month ago. The mix consists of all things Arthur Russell, which is maybe the best mix ever. I haven’t listened to it yet, but it’s Arthur Russell!
The tracklist looks solid and I am sure it put together very well. I was going to make a tribute mix for Russell a few years ago to commemorate his passing, but unfortunately the timing was off. Go grab the mix and listen to the best music that has ever graced this planet.
