Beach Frontin’ Stay Coastin
Ken from The Lab warehouse was visiting Sunny Southern California last week and we managed to sneak away for one day to the beach, bikes and all. My first time EVER at a West Coast beach and I have to say, shit is radical. We couldn’t figure out which beach to hit up, so in honor of both of us having New York in our blood what better than Manhattan Beach?
Everytime I am near the water I know I am close to home. I just need to find a poor country that will allow me to live on the coast.
Turntable Lab X Now-Again Records presents Soul Cal: Funky Disco & Modern Soul 1971-1982
The definitive survey of America’s best, independent 70s soul-ensembles. 15 rare and unreleased tracks; 80-page book/CD and 80-page book/2LP with rare photos and each band’s story.
A decade in the making, Soul Cal is the definitive survey of America’s best, independent, 70s soul-ensembles. Profiled within this album and book are the bands that transitioned from funk to disco; the bands that kept up the backbeat as rhythm moved to the backseat. Against the odds, they left recorded artifacts for we at Now-Again to dig out, dust off and restore. Collected here for the first time are the musical dreams of dozens, dreams that were deferred but were never discarded.

Thanks to Lara and John at Japan Society for helping make this happen. Thanks to Otomo for taking time to answer my questions.

Turntable Lab Radio 008: DJ Soulscape
Finally had the honor to meet DJ Soulscape (@slscp) from Korea a couple of weeks ago. I helped curate some shows for him in the city. Super glad to have had him do a very special guest spot on Lab Radio. I have to say this has been my favorite episode yet!
Soulscape reps 360 Sounds Crew and definitely brings Korean Funk, Disco, and Soul to the tables. So much music I have never heard before done properly.
::NOTE::
Soundcloud coding is acting a little funny, so just click on the text below or subscribe to our podcast.
DJ Soulscape (@slscp) makes a special appearance on TTL Radio, coming all the way from Korea with an all vinyl set of rare Korean funk, soul, and psych gems that is not to be missed!
