Rizzla DJ: M2M Mixtape

Recommended Listening / DJ Mixtape

2011 was the year of taking in SXSW as a spectator…for the most part. I wasn’t trying to DJ. I shot a few photos, but who wants to see more photos of bands and hipsters? I was just trying to have fun and let things come my way. Ultimately doing this gave me one of the best SXSW experiences I have had in a LONG time.

Of the little I did actually stumble upon, Rizzla was definitely a MAJOR HIGHLIGHT. I was trying to catch James Blake at the outdoor French Legation show, but capacity was reached way early. I walked back to Dub Academy to catch my friend play, saw that and then Rizzla jumped on.

Hands down one of the best DJ sets I had heard all year. Immediate co-signing was to ensue.

This mix takes from what I heard and plays off of it. A gang of originals and remixes, plus the illest future bass/garage whatever you wanna call it tunes. Highly recommended tape.

If you like Kingdom, Nguzunguzu, and The Ha dance. Jump to it.

Frank The Butcher x 7L: Butcher’s Blade Mix 3

Recommended Listening / DJ Mixtape

My dude, and apparently the most shower taking DJ I know, @BLADERUNNER7L dropped his latest in the on going Butcher’s Blade series.

It’s good, trust.

You must learn.

Frank The Butcher presents: The Butcher’s Blade by 7L

Recommended Listening / DJ Mixtape

Well I am not going to explain who 7L is. At this point, I have a whole iPods worth of mixtapes from my dude and these will fit nicely in the lot. If you like Hip Hop, good DJing, and free stuff this is a no brainer. Grab volume one and two all at once!

I can’t stress how important the East Coast is to Hip Hop and though everything sounds like some washed up attempt at Southern Rap these days, there are a crop of new NY/East Coast faces that are making a huge impact pon di internet / mixtape circles right now and it is getting me excited about the genre again.

DJ 7L - Bashment Party

Recommended Listening / Dancehall Mix

Well it’s Monday and why shouldn’t there be another 7L mixtape for me to rave about?

I am not even gonna go into why you need this and who 7L is. If you keep up with Money Makin’ Mexicano then you should already have an iPod filled with dude’s tapes. 7 gives us a full on Dancehall delight in his latest and well, it speaks for itself.

Dj 7L - Sounds Of Science

Recommended Listening / DJ Mixtape

Here is the promised second 7L mixtape today and this one is more of a banger in the Hip Hop sense. All the music is Hip Hop from 86-91 and according to 7 it isn’t about the deeper cuts, but just about quality sh*t on this one. I couldn’t agree more with my man. Sometimes just because it’s deep doesn’t mean it’s dope (AND PAUSE).

This mix was done for his homie’s blog and you can learn more about 7, the mix, and the music over there.

Dj 7L - Love’s Gonna Get’cha

Recommended Listening / DJ Mixtape

The Bladerunner 7L is at it again with TWO brand new mixtapes! This dude is a beast and I think you all really need to start paying some goddamn attention to his and their (The Bladerunners) greatness.

The first tape I am posting is a Valentinesish mixtape that is chock full of my shit - 80’s R&B and late 70’s soul. You can expect Teddy Pendergrass and Candi Staton on it plus so much more.

UPDATE

Did not know my man Sober 1 did the artwork for this, but now looking at it closer it all makes sense. Good job homie! Now if only I can get you to do my logo.

7L - Catch The Groove Mixtape

Recommended Listening / Dj Mixtape / House

Woke up to another surprise in my inbox this morning. A NEW DJ 7L MIXTAPE!!!

7L (@BLADERUNNER7L), as you should definitely know by now, is 1/3 of The Bladerunners and 1/2 of 7L & Esoteric. One of the illest DJs I know and his replies to texts are off the chain (Let’s just say a lot of emoticons).

Catch The Groove is filled with new house cuts that are “non blog or ironic” says the man. 7 made the mix to launch both his and Beyonder’s (another 3rd of The Bladerunners) new websites.

As always the selections are tasteful, have shelf life, and are not at all trying to be snotty about it. Just good music from good people.

The cover was designed by their dude Oz & he did a dope graffiti roll call with a lot of the homies on there. Did you make the cut?

My main man up in Boston sent me two mixes earlier this month to write about and bump obviously. The first was the amazing Step Into The Am I posted about earlier this month that was all yacht/smooth/AM Rock goodness and now we have this M*THAF*CKIN MONSTA!

MUSIC TO BE MURDERED BY

@Bladerunner7L pulled out all the stops and made the ultimate horror movie mixtape. He dug a little deep and it sure is funky like only my man could do.
