Bronx To Tokyo: Breaking The Divide pt. 2

I miss Japan so much.

Bronx To Tokyo: Breaking The Divide pt. 1

Tokyo will be hosting this year’s BC One competition. BC One is maybe the largest B-boy event in the world that brings together dancers from all over the world that have been cherry picked to go against each other. This will be the first year the event will be held in Asia, and more specifically Japan.

The cultural side of this event is pretty significant, as Tokyo played a huge part in the globalization of Hip Hop. After Wild Style made it’s debut in Japan and the cast, played by the kings of kings + founders of Hip Hop, toured throughout the country and brought the real essence of the South Bronx to their doorstep, they were the first to adopt the style & flavor.

This mini documentary traces those footsteps and shows what an amazing time it was.

De La Soul feat Scha Dara Parr & Takagi Dan - Long Island Wildin

Roger Yamaha invited me to DJ with him this past Friday at Organbar in Shibuya. It was a fun time and the vibe was super nice.

The crazy thing was Scha Dara Parr was in the house Djing as well. For those familiar with De La Soul’s third album, Buhloone Mindstate, you will know who I am talking about. They, along Major Force’s Takagi Dan, did guest vocals on this track.

What a small world & cool honor to get to play with legends of Japanese Hip Hop, as well as American Hip Hop history.
